After much consideration of the issues surrounding the Human Genome Project, we believe that government funding be allowed for the Human Genome Project.
At present, most genome projects in different countries are privately funded. One of the problems that could arise when a project is privately funded, specifically something as big as the Human Genome Project is that there might come a time when funding will run out. When this happens everything stops. In order to prevent this, we believe that the government should step in and provide funding.
One of the arguments against the government funding the Human Genome Project is that not all the public will benefit from it. Our group says that the truth is far from it. As we have shown in our arguments in the previous chapters, everyone will benefit from the Human Genome Project as the project will also make possible healthier and virtually disease-free animals and healthier food crops. This is a benefit of the project that will touch the lives of all the peoples of the world. It can, theoretically, save lives of millions of people suffering from and dying of hunger. Scientists are also hopeful that they can breed plants that are better in absorbing the carbon dioxide in the air, thus lessening pollution in the world.
With all these benefits humans are poised to receive from the Human Genome Project, we are firm in our stand that government funding of the Human Genome Project should be allowed.
